What is your favorite part of your job?

My calling to work with children happened when I was providing dental services during the Special Olympics in New York, and since then, working with children of all ages and needs has been my favorite part of my career as a Dentist. Being able to help our children overcome their fear of the dentist, treat and cure dental pain or discomfort a child may face, as well as help our children start a lifetime of healthy smiles. That smile at the end of treatment when a child confesses it wasn’t so scary it my favorite part.

Why do you love working with your doctors and the rest of your team?

After joining my team, I quickly learned I have a sound support system. Importance is given not only to me as an individual and a provider but also to our families. There is always someone ready to step up and provide coverage when needed, which helps us maintain our work-life balance.

I enjoy coming to work each day because though it's never dull in a pediatric dental office, my team keeps me laughing and joking all day. We all love to share parts of our lives with each other, from family, food, and manicure designs to social media trends and celebrating each of our special days.

As a new member of the team as well as to the area, they have been super helpful in sharing their resources, enabling me to build my village in a new environment.

Personal information:

Born and raised on the island of Mombasa, Kenya, I pursued my dental education and completed dental school and one year of clinical rotation in India, where I met the love of my life. We got married and moved to the United States shortly after.

I joined the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in 2016 as a preceptor in General Dentistry and have gone on to complete a one-year Fellowship in Community Dentistry followed by Advanced Education in General Dentistry, a Pediatric Dentistry Fellowship, and the Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities fellowship. I joined the Special Olympics, NY as a team trainer and had the opportunity to be a resident chair of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry.

These opportunities brought me close to working with children, and I was fortunate to continue my passion for becoming a pediatric dentist at Nova Southeastern University.

My time is dedicated to my husband and son when I am not working. We moved to Orlando to be closer to the theme parks and the amazing Florida weather. We love to explore restaurants together, visit theme parks and spend time with our friends. I love baking, reading books, swimming, and going on long walks. You will usually see me all over the neighborhood on Sunday mornings with my friends walking group. Say hi if you do!
